Planner proposes split of 'group housing' categories and expanded MA-1 uses; public hearing next week

Desiree Jackson, senior planner, briefed the commission on two proposed text amendments that the planning staff will present in more detail at next week's public hearing. "I'm Desiree Jackson. I'm senior planner here, and I'm gonna present these text amendments to you in a brief summary," she said.
Jackson said the first amendment breaks the existing 'group housing' definition into four categories (group homes, community care facilities, halfway facilities and inpatient drug and alcohol addiction treatment facilities) and assigns each use to appropriate zoning districts while clarifying the definition of family. The second amendment would expand allowed uses in the Limited Manufacturing & Industrial District (MA-1) to add repairs, gyms, laundromats, high-bulk retail, gas stations and community service uses. Staff told the commission they will return with full ordinance language and a public hearing next week.
