Lava Korean Steakhouse wins awning and parking variances; outdoor alcohol service will require separate hearing

David Alderman, representing Lava Korean Steakhouse, said the addition is intended as a covered waiting area for guests and that the restaurant has about 25 tables; he told the board they are not adding dining space and that the awning is for customer comfort. Alderman said there is off-site parking at a nearby mall that they use informally but that easement parking cannot be counted in the parcel's parking calculations.
Board members pressed on neighborhood impacts and the scope of the earlier special exception permitting on-site alcohol consumption. Several members said an amendment to the special exception would be required to permit outdoor alcohol service and that such an amendment would need separate public notice; the board approved the awning and parking variances with staff conditions but deferred any change to the special exception to a future hearing.
