Mayor honors water and fiber staff for emergency response work

The mayor presented awards of merit to several city employees for exceptional service during recent incidents that threatened city services.
Public Works Director Logan Lee introduced water treatment plant operators Wade Hoskins, Cameron Frasier, Seth Hsu and Gilbert Cavetto, saying those operators were on shift during the historic Skagit River flooding and that the plant experienced zero downtime during the event. “These 4 operators were on shift overnight during the peak flood levels... and due to these operators' commitment... they were able to help protect an essential service for the residents of Anacortes,” Lee said.
City staff also recognized members of the fiber team—Corby Stevens, Aaron Brown and Ian Wade—for extended restoration work after a major fiber outage on June 29. Council noted the long overtime and improvisation (using a Parks and Rec van as a splicing platform) that minimized service disruption for residents and businesses.
Why it matters: the awards highlight frontline staff actions that kept drinking water, wastewater and critical communications functioning during weather and infrastructure incidents. The council and mayor used the ceremony to acknowledge staff professionalism and operational resilience.
