CLAD reports local wins: Tech Ord expansion, USDA grant work and biomass study

Deb Adkins, executive director of CLAD, presented the organization’s quarterly report to the Deuel County Commission on Aug. 4, detailing several local economic-development developments.
Adkins said Deuel County receives RAIF funding comparable to larger counties and reviewed the Beautification Grant, which has produced at least one applicant per quarter since CLAD began administering it. She reported active projects with Applied Digital and Missouri River Energy and that a USDA Rural Business Development Grant is underway. A community-wide biomass study is being conducted; Adkins said, if advanced, the project could create by-product opportunities for Crystal Springs Feeds.
Adkins also described private expansions and infrastructure recently completed or planned: Tech Ord held a June groundbreaking, with about 85% of its workforce from Deuel County and an expansion expected to add roughly 25–30 production positions and five or more administrative positions; the industrial park water project was completed last Friday; and Shane Dahl plans storage units in the industrial park. CLAD now controls 100% of DADI’s debt and assets after DADI’s dissolution, and new signage is installed for Wildlife Estates.
Following the presentation the commission approved a $5,000 quarterly contribution to CLAD (motion by Judith Homan, seconded by Steve Rhody). The minutes record the report, the board’s funding approval and no extended public controversy on these items.
