Highway Superintendent Jamie Broksieck told the board that structure 20-107-190 (185th Street over Hidewood Creek) will replace a 30-foot concrete-and-timber bridge with a box culvert measuring 2-11 feet by 8 feet and requested that the design speed be reduced to 35 mph. The board approved the 35 mph design exception on a motion by Commissioner Scott Fieber, seconded by Commissioner Steve Rhody; the minutes state "All voted yes and the motion carried."
Broksieck also described structure 20-151-200 (186th Street over Cobb Creek), proposing replacement of a 28-foot steel-and-concrete bridge with a 3-9 foot by 9 foot box culvert. The requested exception concerned headwater elevation; the board approved a 10-year design headwater elevation of 0.6 feet below the roadway low subgrade shoulder elevation (motion by Commissioner Harry Mewherter, seconded by Commissioner Judith Homan).
Both approvals were recorded as formal motions in the minutes. The actions clear the way for final design work on the two projects; Broksieck noted the dimensions and the specific design exceptions the county granted. The county did not record extended debate in the minutes and took roll-call-style unanimous action on both motions.
