At the July 27 special joint meeting, Parks Director Deal said he was considering proposing a 1/8-cent sales tax to generate roughly $500,000 a year to support a dedicated capital fund for parks projects.
"Deal looked forward to being a part of the city's comprehensive plan discussions, upgrading park surfaces, installing entrance signage, upgrading fitness and community center and possibly proposing 1/8 cents sales tax generating $500K to put into a capital fund," the transcript records. Board members discussed alternatives including setting aside reserves and pursuing donor funding for athletic improvements.
No formal tax proposal was introduced or voted on at the meeting; board members emphasized the need for planning around the long-term debt schedule and for public engagement if a tax measure is advanced.
