The Human Relations Commission voted to form a small subcommittee of three to four commissioners to explore ways the panel can be more active between monthly meetings and return recommendations to the full commission. The proposal, offered during unfinished business, cited authority under section 13-57 of the city code to study issues and make policy recommendations to the city commission.
"So I'd like the board to consider a motion, that we form a small subcommittee of 3 to 4, commissioners to review ideas and opportunities for how this commission could be more active between meetings, and then we would bring back recommendations to the full board," said Commissioner (S4). Commissioners discussed options for a sunset review (six or 12 months) and agreed volunteers would serve initially; several members volunteered and Delaney was suggested as the subcommittee chair. The motion was seconded and approved with no opposition recorded. The subcommittee will set meeting frequency after convening and return recommendations to the commission for possible adoption.
