Miss Milley urges Horry County to protect Quail Run open space from sale and development

She said the remaining strip of open space near her property is only about 30 feet wide and that she now pays about $43 a year in taxes on it; she asked the county to find a way that protected open space "should be signed, sealed, and delivered forever. It should never be allowed to go up for tax sale."
Milley described how trees were cleared after the sale and argued that development rules and enforcement allow developers to alter or rezone open space when they leave. She urged officials to adopt stronger protections and planning measures — including requiring portions of developments to remain wooded and adding "hurricane breaks" or windbreaks — and to consider stable funding or legal tools so heirs and neighbors are not left personally responsible for preservation costs. The remarks came during the meeting's public-comment period and were followed by brief discussion with the Chair and a pledge to follow up with the county counselor.
