Parks & Rec announces health expo, pumpkin patch and holiday events; commission approves activities

Britney Mason, chair of the Parks & Recreation advisory group, told commissioners the department has scheduled a health expo for Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Burns Gymnasium; Libby's Legacy will provide free mammograms and there will be vendor booths and a blood-donation station. Mason said 14 businesses had already expressed interest in participating.
Commissioners approved Parks & Rec requests to hold a Thanksgiving food-box distribution (about 100 boxes, Nov. 21) and a December 12 Christmas-in-the-park event after the parade. Staff and commissioners asked Parks & Rec to return with liability-waiver language and more staffing details for teen-night proposals and movie/pumpkin events; the commission emphasized that city-sanctioned events must include appropriate supervision and release forms.
