Horry County finance staff report early FY26 figures; $5.9M in old EMS charges to be written off

Horry County finance staff told the county council that early fiscal-year 2026 figures show $22,900,000 in revenues across all funds, with 66.7% in the general fund, and $49,900,000 in expenditures, nearly 80% of which are in the general fund.
The presenter said general fund revenues are about 5.2% higher than the prior year and expenditures about 2.5% higher. On EMS receivables, the presenter said, “The amount we are writing off is $5,927,169,” explaining the write-off applies to accounts older than June 30, 2022, while collection efforts will continue. A council member asked staff to email a five- to six-year annualized breakdown of EMS write-offs for the committee’s review.
