The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution at the Sept. 2 meeting asking the election superintendent to call an election on Nov. 4, 2025, to submit a countywide 1% Flexible Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST) to voters.
The resolution specifies that, if approved, the one-percent tax would be imposed for five years to provide property-tax relief and contains the ballot wording that will appear to voters. The resolution's suggested ballot language reads in part: "Shall a special one percent (1%) sales and use tax be imposed in the special district of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County for a period of time not to exceed 20 calendar quarters for the purpose of property tax relief in Cusseta–Chattahoochee County, Georgia as provided in Article 2b of Chapter 8 of Title 48 of the Official Code of Georgia?" The commission asked the elections superintendent to publish statutorily required notices and to canvass and certify the results.
Chairman Charles Coffey read the resolution at the meeting and asked staff to confirm the text was posted on the county website for public review.
If voters approve the measure, the county will impose the 1% sales-and-use tax for the five-year period set out in the resolution; the resolution also directs county officers to take further administrative actions required to implement the tax.
