Finance Committee outlines 6.7% omnibus budget rise; approves Senior Center assistant request

Committee members highlighted a new Senior Center assistant position requested by the Council on Aging and the Senior Center. The assistant's salary was estimated at $22,000 and committee members said it would allow the Senior Center director to perform "tasks more appropriate to that position's, and the public's, needs, such as social work," rather than spending substantial time preparing meals and cleaning up after them. The committee treated this as a necessary operational adjustment and included it in the recommended omnibus figures presented to voters.
