Council discusses changing ordinance to allow earlier Sunday garbage placement and increase pickup enforcement

Alderman Greco said enforcement has focused on the time cans go out rather than ensuring they are retrieved promptly. Under current code (Section 51.03), garbage cans "may not be placed out before 6:00 p.m." The mayor expressed support for allowing residents to put cans out as early as 3:00 p.m. on Sundays. City Attorney R. Ramello will revise the ordinance language and Community Development staff member M. Headley will assign an employee to drive neighborhoods on Tuesday mornings to monitor pickup compliance.
The discussion resulted in direction to prepare revised ordinance language and increase enforcement patrols; no ordinance change was adopted at the meeting.
