Superintendent Keith Brown announced that Klamath Falls City Schools will eliminate Early Release Wednesdays beginning next school year and said professional development time will be scheduled in alternate formats. Brown introduced a year-end review of district accomplishments before making the scheduling announcement.
During public comment Maureen Lundy, representing the Klamath Falls Education Association (KFEA), urged the Board to preserve early-release professional development time, arguing the Governor's executive order does not require elimination of PD and highlighting the district's ongoing curriculum and instructional planning needs, elementary literacy initiatives, teacher work-life balance and efforts to prevent burnout. Lundy asked the Board to work collaboratively with KFEA, district staff and administrators to preserve professional development opportunities.
