The Finance Committee voted 5-0 to set the 2026 Delinquent Real Property Tax Auction for Sept. 8 through Sept. 15, 2026, and approved the 2026 Auction Notice to Bidders and Terms of Sale as presented. William Thew moved approval of the notice and terms; the committee recorded unanimous support. Resolutions will formalize the action and allow staff to publish the notice to bidders.
Earlier, Mr. Thew raised a recent court ruling concerning tax-sale overages. Jack K. Wheeler summarized the Supreme Court ruling in Pung v. Isabella County, saying from a non‑attorney standpoint it measures “just compensation” by the auction sale price rather than fair market value and described the decision as favorable to municipalities. The committee moved into executive session under Public Officers’ Law §105(1)(h) to discuss proposed acquisition, sale, or lease of real property, then reconvened and adjourned.
