Interns say Microsoft, planning and public-speaking skills were top takeaways

“Allison said she learned how to use Microsoft...so I can...apply to other jobs during the school year,” an intern summarized of her experience. Taylor tied practical tasks to event planning, saying her department work included making posters and booking vendors for the farmers market and Safe Summer Nights. Gabriela said the placements exposed her to urban planning and permitting: “You can't paint your house pink on a random Sunday. You have to go and you have to get it approved,” she said, describing how department roles interconnect.
Other interns noted photography and media skills from the communications department, and Jeremiah described IT troubleshooting work on phones, printers and monitors across the city. Arthur emphasized teamwork and patience acquired in public works fieldwork.
Taken together, the interns reported the program improved technical skills and workplace habits they called useful for future jobs and education.
