Recreation Supervisor Austin George updated the Dixon City Parks and Recreation Commission on Oct. 28 about recent programs and planned offerings.
"There were roughly 75 people who showed up throughout the event and the vendors were happy to connect their services, with the seniors," George said of the Senior Club resource fair held Oct. 18. He noted the Senior Club will host a Christmas luncheon on Dec. 5 and that the deadline to sign up is Nov. 26. George also said the Senior Center will be used as a polling location on Nov. 4 and that normal senior programs will be canceled that day.
George outlined upcoming youth and training programs: basketball camps will run during the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas (offered by the National Academy of Athletics at John Knight Middle School), and the department will run a Babysitting 101 course (targeting 11–15 year olds) with Red Cross certification on Nov. 11 and Nov. 14 and again Dec. 29–30. He also confirmed two upcoming CPR classes on Nov. 22 and Dec. 20 with online and in-person components, and staff recertification sessions over the fall and winter.
On facilities, George said lap swim and the Dixon Dolphins programs have ended for the season; Dixon High School water polo has a few weeks remaining. He said the department will perform annual preventive maintenance and cleanup of pool facilities once the water polo season ends and that the Dolphins will replace a storage shed at that time.
