Subcommittee hears state budget boosts for IDD housing, $60,000 adaptive clothing allocation

The Cayuga County People With Developmental Disabilities Subcommittee was told June 11 that the recently passed New York state budget includes specific funding that could affect local services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Committee members were informed that the budget includes an enhanced rent freeze program for older adults and individuals with IDD, $15,000,000 allocated to support independent housing initiatives, and $60,000 for an adaptive clothing program.
The committee also heard that Unity House will assume responsibility for Representative Payee services in Cayuga County and that the Suicide Prevention Coalition has received funding from the Office of Mental Health to broaden prevention efforts beyond clinic-based care. Maureen (who will compile survey responses for the Local Services Plan) and other staff were listed as contacts for follow-up. The budget numbers were presented as part of the director’s report and no formal vote on use of those funds occurred at the meeting.
