Cayuga County Office for the Aging awarded $10,000 Meals on Wheels America gift; summer programs planned

Brenda Wiemann of the Cayuga County Office for the Aging reported to the Health & Human Services Committee that the office has been awarded a $10,000 Meals on Wheels America Acceleration Gift based on the county’s 2026 Member Benchmarking Survey and federal poverty measures. The funding is intended to expand access to new senior clients, support service continuity and build local capacity, Wiemann said to the committee.
Wiemann summarized recent staff trainings — including Working with Diverse Family Caregivers and Food Safety 101 — and outreach events such as an Empower Parkinson’s event on May 12 and a presentation to more than 70 attendees at Melrose Seniors on May 28. She also announced that the Senior Farmer’s Market Distribution begins Wednesday, July 15, at the Fingerlakes Mall, with several distributions planned across the county and limited quantities available.
