Cayuga review committee finds Town of Mentz data-center moratorium to be local in scope

The Cayuga County GML 239-l, m & n Review Committee reviewed a proposed Town of Mentz local law to enact a moratorium on the development, construction, and operation of data centers and commercial cryptocurrency mining operations. On a motion by Doug Kierst, seconded by Kathleen Cuddy, the Committee "determined that the action appears to have no intermunicipal concerns and to be of local concern only." The motion was approved with all voting AYE.
Committee members said they considered the materials submitted by the Town Board and concluded there was no evidence of intermunicipal impacts requiring county-level concern. The review was conducted under New York State General Municipal Law §239-l, §239-m, and §239-n as part of the Committee's regular referral process.
