Public Works Director Chris Smith and engineer Joshua Beckman of Kirkham, Michael & Associates presented an agreement for engineering services on a High Risk Rural Road project slated for FY2028. The project covers three miles of North 170th Road from K-18 to Homestead Road; Kansas Department of Transportation will provide 90% of construction funding. The estimated design engineering cost is $60,000.
The commission voted to approve the engineering agreement (motion by Commissioner Carla Grund, seconded by Commissioner Duane Morris), and the motion passed 3-0. The approval advances preliminary design work ahead of KDOT-funded construction in 2028.
