Police report: 21 written warnings first week of school; additional citations during second week

A police department representative reported on back‑to‑school enforcement tied to increased pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic. "During the first 2 weeks of school as we do every year, we do a maximum enforcement period," the speaker said, adding: "During the 1st week of school's a short week with minimum days and stuff. During that 1st week, we issued 21 written warnings. During the 2nd week, full week, we issued, 6 to 18, written warnings."
The officer said the second‑week total also included repeat offenders and that officers issued additional moving‑violation and parking citations. As part of the enforcement the department distributed dozens of bicycle helmets to riders who received warnings. Commissioners had no further questions and the department closed the report.
