At the board meeting, a district presenter described operations and progress for the ACE after‑school program funded through a grant with a 110‑student target. “Our goal is a 110 students. And whenever I turn this in to be presented to you, we have 71, but we've just enrolled a new student today… So we currently have 72 of the 110 that is our goal,” the presenter said. The speaker noted students must commit to 60 days of attendance during the school year to meet grant terms and that some students already have 30 or more days.
The presenter detailed daily program components required by the grant — academics, enrichment, career/college readiness and physical activity — and highlighted community partnerships. The South Texas Food Bank provides a daily hot supper and donated more than $23,500 to the program last year, and the Hope Center provided reduced‑price items and weekend grocery backpacks. The district also described volunteer and mentorship supports from local AgriLife Extension and the county sheriff's office.
