The Ottawa County planning and zoning budget drew discussion June 1 as commissioners reviewed whether to reduce the department’s operating budget while still funding a Comprehensive Plan renewal. Planning staff indicated a K‑State renewal would require about $20,000.
Commissioners discussed transferring unspent 2026 funds into a capital outlay account and increasing the contractual line in the 2027 zoning budget by $7,500 to help pay for the renewal. County Clerk Tammi Cox said she would notify Scot Loyd of the proposed changes and check whether statutory authority is required for the transfer; staff will update the commission at the next meeting.
