Union representative urges council to reconsider refinery tax, warns of job, price impacts
Summary

Jimmy Holland, who identified himself as representing about 2,000 members of Boilermakers Local 92, addressed the council during public comment and urged members to reconsider placing an oil refinery per‑barrel tax on the ballot.
Holland said the proposed tax would be passed on to consumers and called a proposed ‘‘dollar per barrel’’ tax excessive, saying it could have "unintended economic consequences for local businesses, workers, and residents." He also reviewed the local history of refinery operations in Carson and argued refineries have long provided jobs and economic support to the community.
Holland said he had submitted written comments and asked the council to reconsider the measure in light of potential job losses and consumer cost impacts.
