New commissioner Melissa Skarbek joins Anchorage Women's Commission

Melissa Skarbek, the commission's newest member, introduced herself at the start of the meeting and described her professional background in behavioral health and forensic social work. "My name is Melissa Skarbek, I'm a licensed clinical social worker," she said, adding that she owns a therapeutic practice and a forensic social work practice in Anchorage and is interested in the intersection of mental health, public policy and community safety.
Skarbek said she joined the commission out of a sense of civic duty and expressed eagerness to collaborate with other members. Chair Christie Traver welcomed her and noted staff would send onboarding materials, including an ethics statement to sign and committee information to help Skarbek get involved.
