Police Chief Robert Thompson introduced the department's inaugural post‑COVID class of police volunteers, identifying five participants and describing the range of duties they will perform in support of the department.
"Good evening, Mayor and Council, Robert Thompson, Police Chief," Thompson said as he introduced the volunteers and told the council the program had been rebuilt after COVID disruptions. He listed Jim Ward (program coordinator), Kurt Fargo, Anthony Stewart, Paul Anderson and Supna Godkin as members of the first class and described functions including vacation checks, parade/event support and a professional drone operator who will assist search operations.
Council members welcomed the volunteers and thanked them for taking pressure off sworn officers for non‑enforcement duties; Thompson said recruitment will continue and the program aims to expand. Staff directed volunteers to complete five‑minute remarks and to sign up through the Dixon Police Department website for more information.
