County staff seeks permission to apply for CDBG rehab grant for Howard Street group homes

County staff told commissioners they will submit a letter to the state requesting permission to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to rehabilitate two group homes on Howard Street. The staff presentation said the request is needed because the Pavarello veteran housing project’s CDBG grant is still open and staff must ask permission to apply for a separate housing rehab grant before closing out the existing award.
The presenter said Opportunity Resources Incorporated (ORI) approached county staff to pursue the rehab grant on behalf of two Howard Street group homes. According to the presentation, each of the two homes has eight rooms and four bathrooms; planned work includes bathroom remodels and roof replacement. Staff said they will close out the Pavarello grant and provide further project details in a future update to the commission.
"We were approached by ORI, Opportunity Resources Incorporated, to apply for a housing grant on their behalf, for their Howard Street group home," the presenter said. The presenter added that the Pavarello project is at the tail end of work and that staff must request state permission to apply for a new grant while the Pavarello grant remains open.
Commissioners expressed support and staff indicated they would return with more details at a subsequent meeting.
