Superintendent reports positive preliminary audit findings and previews school-year events

"Preliminary reports show that we're going to be in much better shape than we were, anticipating when we adopted a $1,400,000 deficit," the superintendent said, summarizing the audit window and the district's current outlook. She also recapped a Kinney County Fair walkthrough held Aug. 6, new-teacher orientation for roughly 10 new staff, staff workdays Aug. 18–21, and a community back-to-school pep rally on Aug. 19. The superintendent announced the district's official first day of school will be Aug. 22 and that a phased fire-alarm installation (phase 1) and electrical walk-through are scheduled to begin imminently.
The superintendent invited board members and community leaders to a district consultation event and named expected attendees: Judge Schuster, Sheriff Coe and the mayor. She said district reports will be streamlined into department highlights for future meetings and that department reports will remain available on request.
