Brackett ISD honors district athletes, academic standouts at April board meeting

The Brackett ISD Board of Trustees opened its April 14 meeting by recognizing student achievements across athletics and academics. Board attendees and district administrators called several students to the front to receive honors ranging from district all‑team selections to academic distinctions.
“Our kids, they excel in athletics and you’ll also notice that our athletes several of them got academic all district honors,” said the meeting presenter (S3) while introducing recipients. Among those named were Jordan Balderas, a junior and unanimous district MVP and academic all‑district honoree; Trent Sandoval, sophomore, unanimous 1st team; and Riley Jones, recognized as the district offensive MVP. The board also recognized elementary students who completed the Zearn Brainy Challenge, including Mary McNew and Courtney Van Ort, and celebrated Joaquin Corona’s first‑place finish at the International Academic National Geography League regional contest in San Antonio, qualifying him for competition in Orlando.
The recognitions were followed by brief remarks from staff and attendees praising the students and their coaches. S3 said the district will display student art and host an art show and other end‑of‑year events: “Our boardroom here and our central office will soon transform into an art gallery,” the presenter said. Trustees also were reminded of upcoming dates including STAAR testing, teacher appreciation week (May 5–9), and scholarship and graduation events.
District officials did not announce any new policy changes tied to the recognitions; the segment functioned as the board’s routine student‑recognition portion of the agenda.
