Ulster County will abandon 0.3-acre old Route 9W parcel to adjoining owner for $8,700, with conditions to preserve memorial access

Resolution 443 authorizes the abandonment of a small parcel formerly associated with old Route 9W in the Town of Ulster and the sale of that parcel to adjoining property owner 1905 Ulster LLC for $8,700.
Planning Director Doyle explained that the parcel became surplus after the road was straightened decades ago and that state review concluded the area is no longer needed for highway purposes. He said the county originally acquired the right-of-way in the 1930s and that the abandoned parcel is adjacent to — but does not include — a veterans memorial; the county will place conditions on the sale to preserve memorial access and driveway needs. Legislators supported the abandonment as a road-safety and clean-up measure and the resolution passed unanimously.
DPW and Planning staff provided backup information to justify the action and confirmed appraisal-based payment to the county.
