The Phippsburg Select Board voted to authorize the town administrator to sign an agreement with SWCA Environmental Consultants to develop a two‑year community wildfire protection plan.
"Authorize Town Administrator to sign the agreement with SWCA Environmental Consultants to complete a community wildfire protection plan," the chair said when presenting the motion, and the board approved it by voice vote. Town staff described the CWPP as a multi‑phase effort that would focus on three centralized areas each year and include a project calendar.
Town staff said the contract will be paid from a MEMA grant. "But this would come from the MEMA grant that they've been working on — we wouldn't go into any tax money for this plan," the town administrator said, noting the scope and the expected two‑year timeline.
The board approved the motion without recorded roll‑call. Staff said SWCA was selected by the CWPP review committee for experience in eastern coastal work and an office in Scarborough; materials provided to the board included a phase breakdown and calendar. A public kickoff meeting tied to the CWPP was scheduled for May 30 at Phippsburg Elementary School.
