The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a new hire and two equipment purchases for the county Road & Bridge department at its April 7, 2025 meeting.
Road and Bridge Supervisor Cody Zook told the board the Rainbow Bridge project is nearing completion and presented staffing and procurement requests. Commissioner Cory Moates moved to hire Thom Laturner as a utility/operator effective April 7, 2025, at $17.00 an hour; Commissioner Myra Carlisle Frazier seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Zook also presented bids for a mini excavator and a gooseneck trailer. The board accepted the bid for a Liugong 9057F (12,600 lbs., 5‑year/6,000‑hour warranty) for $81,350.00 and approved a Midsota FB 8'6" x 36' hydraulic dovetail gooseneck trailer (16k axles, 36,800 GVWR) from 4‑State Trailers for $34,000.00. Both purchases were moved by Commissioner Moates, seconded by Commissioner Frazier, and approved unanimously.
County officials also approved a wire transfer to 4‑State Trailers to complete the trailer purchase. The purchases and hire are expected to support ongoing bridge and road maintenance work in Cherokee County.
