Parent group presents survey calling for strict screen-time limits as board advances technology policy

A parent-led group, Schools Beyond Screens Atlanta, told the board that a district-wide screen-time limit policy would be broadly popular and help increase classroom engagement.
David Guy, speaking for the group, summarized survey results from more than 300 families: "91% said to set some kind of time limit for screens on a daily or weekly basis from K to 12," and large majorities supported blocking YouTube, ending screens at break time and limiting AI chatbot access. "The time of a screen based education has come to a close," Guy said, urging the board to act.
Separately, Board member Brooks reported that the policy review committee discussed student technology use and instructional materials; the committee moved the policy out of committee and placed it on today's agenda for first reading, with a goal of finalizing the policy upon second reading next month. The committee also flagged future discussion of AI policy and continued technology-use conversations.
