Board trims Siouxland District Health tax request by $1 million

Green described the department's use of a reserve fund (built from vacant positions and one-time grant funds) as a way to lower the tax asking; he recommended using about $1,000,000 from that reserve, which would bring the county tax request down to $2,515,143. Supervisor Nelson moved to receive the budget with that reduction and the motion passed 5–0.
Green also summarized public-health takeaways he presented at a recent 99-county cancer tour: Woodbury ranks seventh of 22 metropolitan counties for new cancer incidence; the department noted that about 40% of cancers are linked to modifiable risk factors and identified prevention strategies such as smoking cessation and sun protection.
The board did not adopt specific new program funding that night; the vote was to receive the proposed budget with the specified reduction and to continue budget work as scheduled in upcoming hearings.
