The transfer-station staff informed the committee that the town council has voted to discontinue the condominium trash reimbursement program.
"The council did vote to, do away with that," the staff member said, adding that the final check for existing recipients was issued in June. The staff member said residents attended council meetings in force to present their points, and that council members held two meetings on the topic.
Staff said the decision means future condominium developments will be required to pay their own trash costs; the committee noted that the change reduces a recurring budgetary obligation (S2 characterized the prior program as a significant past expenditure). Committee members acknowledged citizen concerns but said the council made the formal decision.
The staff member asked the committee to note the change for operational planning and to expect more public questions now that the council has acted.
