Court approves agreement for $350,000 rural ambulance grant after state assigns single recipient

The judge explained an unusual outcome for a $350,000 rural ambulance grant from the state: the county had intended to split the award between providers but was later told the state would allow only a single recipient and that the award was assigned to Mejia (the first‑listed recipient on the county’s application).
“This is the $350,000 grant that that we received, from the state of Texas, the rural ambulance grant,” the County Judge said when introducing the item. He described discussions with hospital leadership and the content of an agreement under which the City of Mexia would take possession of the ambulance and handle maintenance while title would remain with the county. The court moved to approve the agreement and the motion passed by voice vote.
The judge said he had discussed the state decision with local hospital representative Larry Price and planned to request that future awards be routed to the local provider (LMC) if possible; for this award the county accepted the state’s determination. The interlocal agreement approved by the court will be forwarded to the City of Mexia for their approval.
