The finance committee approved a $1,805,807.11 budget amendment for the Hamblen County Department of Education that budgets grant carryovers, ARPA funds and other reserved balances.
"The first line item is $505,490.15 which is CCEIS money, for the early intervention of special needs children," Jared Relayad, the department presenter, told the committee while enumerating the amendment’s line items. He also listed a public school security grant carryover of $99,796.47 and other program-specific amounts, and said some ARPA funds will be used for facility remodels.
Commissioners asked whether the amendment represented new money; Relayad replied the amendment largely budgets reserves and carryovers from prior grant awards rather than new county revenue. The motion to approve the amendment was moved, seconded and carried by the committee.
What’s next: staff will incorporate the amendment into the department’s fiscal-year accounting and report carryover uses during upcoming budget oversight reviews.
