Commissioners extend local disaster proclamation after storm damage

The Ottawa County Commission voted Monday to extend a local disaster proclamation that covers storm and flooding damage, moving to keep emergency authorities in place for an additional seven days.

Committee member (speaker 4) moved to approve “resolution 26 10 and proclamation regarding the local disaster emergency, starting June 15.” The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Emergency management staff told the board that the hardest-hit areas included Ada, Atascades and Culver and that crews were prioritizing road clearings and shelter services. “The hardest areas in the county were Ada, Atascades, and Culver,” said Agency official (speaker 9), summarizing the field assessment and resource gaps. Commissioners said the extension will allow them to keep recovery operations active while they collect damage documentation for potential assistance.

Why it matters: extending the proclamation preserves county authorities to allocate personnel, use emergency vehicles and coordinate with state and nonprofit partners during the immediate recovery period. Chair (speaker 1) said the extension gives staff time to collect damage photos, GPS records and to schedule a multi-agency debrief. The board did not set a special public hearing date; it asked staff to return with any requests for emergency expenditures and with follow‑up plans for public communication and volunteer coordination.
