Patriot Hydro says new fishway at Hooksett Dam is complete; fish passage expected next spring

Representatives of Patriot Hydro reported to the Hooksett Town Council that a two‑year construction project to add an upstream fishway at the Hooksett Dam on the Merrimack River is complete.
"It's been completed, and we anticipate that upstream fish passage... should be occurring next spring in the anadromous fish runs that the Merrimack has experienced in the past," said Skip Medford of Patriot Hydro, who described construction challenges, the structure's adjustable flow features and safety signage. Medford said pedestrian viewing would need coordination because of a nearby railroad crossing and noted that the facility is not intended as a public recreation or fishing spot. The company has distributed photographs of the completed fishway to the council and said it would consider arranging a supervised viewing event in the spring.
