On July 28 the Custer County Board approved Resolution #22-2026, authorizing a three-mile closure of the Callaway–Cozad blacktop County road for the Sandhills Open Road Challenge and One Mile Shootout. Supervisor Longmore moved the resolution and Supervisor Markham seconded; the motion passed by roll call with all supervisors voting aye.
The resolution describes the closed segment as roughly 16 miles south of the junction with State Highway 40. The board discussed the purpose of the closure as allowing the motorsport event to proceed on county right-of-way for a limited time; no additional permit conditions were recorded in the minutes.
