Commissioners plan pilot test and further bids on courthouse window replacement after basement flooding

Commissioners discussed building‑maintenance needs at the courthouse, including the need to replace aging windows and an active plan to test a single section to determine actual cost and structural requirements. The chair said the only way to determine cost is to have a contractor remove and assess one section and provide drawings and bids. "The only way to figure out what it would cost is to do one, tear it out, and find out how much problem it's gonna be to tie back into those pillars," the chair said.

Separately, the commission learned the basement meeting room flooded during the May 18 storm because an exterior step drain plugged with leaf debris; commissioners agreed the drain must be rebuilt and that any work requiring jackhammers should be scheduled when court is not in session. Staff will invite the building lead and bring prior bids, architect drawings and options for a pilot repair at the next meeting.
