Conservation commission secures grant-funded town forest work; Selectboard approves contract

The Conservation Commission briefed the Selectboard on a grant-funded project to improve bird habitat in the Town Forest. The work—described as cut-and-drop structural enhancements—will be led by Vermont Audubon and the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation and is fully supported by a grant from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The town must enter a contract for service not to exceed $5,500 (the grant covers the expense). Dennis Himes moved to enter the contract for service; seconded by Chris Dixson-Boles; motion approved 4–0.
Conservation Commission representatives said the work targets structural habitat improvements; the grant covers cost so the town will incur no expense. The board recorded the motion and asked for follow-up reporting once the scope and schedule were finalized.
