William told commissioners the fire agenda includes a grant application from OxyChem for just under $30,000 for a first‑responder donation program and two significant budget authority requests: item C, to establish almost $500,000 for the Fire Special Equipment Fund to replace PPE and cancer‑related gear; and item D, to establish about $226,000 for woodland firefighting gear, matched by a $225,000 grant (roughly $450,000 total).
"C is to establish budget authority in the amount of just less than a $500,000 into the fire special equipment fund...to replace PPEs and cancer causing types of equipment that fire, historically has been using," William said. He added that item D includes matched funding to enhance woodland firefighting capabilities.
Because of the dollar amounts, the board agreed to pull items C and D from consent and place them on new business so staff and the fire chief can provide fuller explanations at the regular meeting.
