Councilmembers received an update on a draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) among the City of Sedan, USD 286, and the Sedan Recreation Committee aimed at clarifying maintenance and responsibility for the baseball and softball complex.
City Clerk Lana Smith summarized the April 2 meeting and said the school will mow the complex during its season and the Sedan Recreation Committee will take responsibility afterward; costs for maintenance items such as seed and clay would generally be split 50/50 when applicable. Smith said the city will provide trash pickup, water turn-on/shut-off, winterization of water lines and respond to maintenance issues; insurance responsibilities were described as city liability insurance for the fields, league insurance for players, and school insurance for school activities. Another meeting was scheduled to finalize the MOU for each entity's approval.
The council did not vote on the final MOU at the April 7 meeting; the discussion was an informational report and follow-up meeting was planned.
