The Sedan City Council asked staff to begin background checks on two remaining applicants for the Police Chief position and approved a departmental policy on retired officers' service weapons.
City Clerk Lana Smith reported there were "two more applicants for the Police Chief position," and Councilmember Angela Evans said she wanted to run background checks and interview the candidates. The council directed the clerk to begin the background process so interviews can proceed.
Separately, Adam Clark proposed—and the council adopted—a Police Department policy retroactive to March 1, 2026, stating that any officer with "10 consecutive years good standing may retain their gun and holster upon retirement." Angela Evans seconded the motion and it passed unanimously (0 Nay, 5 Yay). The council did not record conditions beyond the ten-year good-standing requirement at the meeting.
The council did not announce a hiring timetable beyond initiating background checks; further steps, including interviews and any appointment, will be scheduled once background checks are complete.
