Board receives revised policies for first reading, updates nondiscrimination language

The Grand Ledge Public Schools Board of Education received revised Board Policies 0167.5, 1422, 2260, 3122 and 4122 for first reading at its Aug. 10 work session. The policies will return to a future meeting for final consideration.
Superintendent Bill Barnes said Governance Committee members, with the Board Parliamentarian, adjusted meeting language to reflect practice — "policies are not actually read, but are received for review" — and explained that an audit found Policies 1422, 2260, 3122 and 4122 had not been updated to include the board-approved nondiscrimination language. Policy 0167.5 addresses expectations for the new @glcomets.net email addresses provided to board members.
Board members expressed general support for the clarification; Denise DuFort said she was "happy to see the addition of Policy 0167.5." The board took the motion to receive the policies for first reading, and the motion carried unanimously. Final adoption will be taken at a later meeting after members review the posted revisions.
