The Grand Ledge Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously Aug. 10 to call a Nov. 3, 2026 regular school election and adopt bond proposal ballot language tied to the district’s Facilities Management Plan.
Superintendent Bill Barnes told board members that the district completed a request for proposals to find construction management and architectural partners and that Treasury has approved the district’s Prequalification Application, which included the ballot language as "draft language." Communication Director John Ellsworth described the tax impact as "a zero mill increase" to the current levy.
Board discussion focused on outreach and information for the public. Barnes said the Bond and Sinking Fund Committee has prepared materials and that informational materials will be shared widely and posted on the district’s website so board members can answer questions from constituents. Denise DuFort said she supported the resolution: "I will definitely be supporting the Resolution."
The board took a roll-call vote on the motion to approve the resolution. The vote was recorded as: Ms. Shannon — YES; President Kuykendoll — YES; Mrs. DuFort — YES; Mr. Oppenheim — YES; Dr. Glasscoe — YES; Ms. Stevens — YES. The motion carried unanimously.
The board did not set final project details in the work session; staff said project planning and public outreach will continue as part of the Facilities Management Plan and that final approvals and any additional motions will appear at a future meeting.
