Superintendent Beth Keys updated the board on planned reductions and rightsizing efforts aimed at balancing next year’s budget. She said the district is ‘‘looking and shooting for 7 50, 500,000 of that should come from, closing a site and putting everything together,’’ indicating administrators expect a significant portion of targeted savings to come from consolidating facilities and related operations.
Keys told the board staff are tracking several bills at the state capitol that could change district obligations and funding; she cited the Algebra II proposal as an example that ‘‘has really picked up a lot of momentum’’ and could change math requirements for the district. She said she will send members notices ahead of any bill advancing to final reading and will provide recommendations to the board if funding implications become clear.
The superintendent said she has been meeting with union representatives and principal groups as part of the planning process and planned to circulate a short survey seeking revenue ideas and suggestions ahead of the March 18 work session. Board members said they expected to review details at upcoming finance and work-session meetings.
