Board adopts school-year calendar, approves multiple policy updates

The Kenyon-Wanamingo School District board approved the 2025–26 school-year calendar and took action on several policy items during its regular meeting. The calendar was approved on a motion from Tanya Craig, seconded by AJ Lindell, and passed 7–0.
The board also approved single-reading updates to policy 519 (interviews of students by outside agencies) and policy 721 (uniform grant guidance, including equipment definitions, small-purchase thresholds and added cybersecurity requirements). Both policies were moved by Deb McCann and seconded by AJ Lindell and passed unanimously. The board additionally rescinded policy 617 (insurance, health prep and high school standards) following a recommendation referenced from MSBA; that motion also passed 7–0.
Superintendent Beth Keys urged members to review the second reading of policy 07/2001 (establishment and adoption of budget), which would add explicit authority for the board to use reserve funds; the superintendent said the policy will return for a third and final reading next month. Members were asked to direct questions about that item to Tricia and Ms. Deese before the next meeting.
These actions conclude routine governance items that set the district’s operational rules, calendar and grant-related procedures ahead of the next school year.
